Word for Second week

One of the major issues up for debate in church these days is the issue of giving.

John 3:16…This is how much God loved the church, by giving his son..

We read this scripture to talk about the love and sacrifice of Christ on the cross. But this is our biggest lesson for giving as well.

To show how much God loves us, he gave.

When you give to God, it is simply evidence of how much you love God.

You provide for your children because you love them. You provide for the house of God because you love God.

Giving is also a commandment but scripture says that if you love me, you will keep my commandments.

That’s exactly how it works.

If you love God, you’d keep his commandment of giving.

There is no giving without love.

HYMN

  1. Abide with me, fast falls the eventide

The darkness deepens Lord, with me abide

When other helpers fail and comforts flee

Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me

2. Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day

Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away

Change and decay in all around I see

O Thou who changest not, abide with me

3. I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless

Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness

Where is death’s sting?

Where, grave, thy victory?

I triumph still, if Thou abide with me

4. Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes

Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies

Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee

In life, in death, o Lord, abide with me

Abide with me, abide with me.
